A rush at the beginning promotional materials

“A Rush at the Beginning” was my senior capstone short film that premiered in 2022. It’s gone on to win several awards in Minnesota and nationally for its high level of quality. I directed, wrote, and produced the short film, which is a teenage coming-of-age short film about a first date that goes awry.

I designed two posters for the promotion of the film. The first poster depicts the main character, Cassie, mostly outside a car window as it drives away from a green light. When I wrote this short film, it was made to showcase a scene within a longer screenplay that I’ve been working on for years. This poster is more for the overall film that is also named “A Rush at the Beginning”.

The second poster is a photo from the pivotal movie theatre scene. It features Cassie and her love interest, Jacob, watching a movie. This more accurately depicts the short film itself.

This poster, known as the “Car Poster”, is a composite image made in Adobe Photoshop. I photographed the main actress hanging out of my car in a garage with controlled lighting and an assistant holding a leafblower behind her to mimic driving. I later went and took a photo of a green traffic light at night. I combined the photos to create the final image, and added the wording and laurels.

Unforunately, I lost the original files and photos to a broken hard drive, but I have a few alternates saved to show what the photo looked like before.

An alternate raw photo to show the behind the scenes!

This poster, known as the “Movie Theatre Poster”, is an image I captured once we finished filming in the movie theatre. It features the two main actors holding pinkies, watching a movie. This plays into the integral scene, where there is a buildup to them holding pinkies. I added a paper border to give it a more nostalgic feel, similar to Polaroid pictures.

The fonts and wordings are exact to the Car Poster, with some colors changed to match within the photo.
